Abstract

This research aims to study the experience in flooding at the lower Tapee River area, Suratthani Province, to study the factors affecting the willingness to pay for the flood protection program, and to study the flood protection potentiality as well as the flood prevention arrangement. Data used in this research is primary data derived from interview by using questionnaire with 640 sample sizes. The statistics used in the analysis are mean, percentage, standard deviation, and regression analysis.
The study results show that the citizens want more effective flood protections systems that can drain water out more quickly such as the drainage system adjustment and the dredge canal. In order to increase the potentiality of the flood protection, more than 50 percent of the total sample sizes are willing to pay for flood protection are the number of the household members, an income, and an education level. Nonetheless, the most important factors that make successful flood protection are the citizen cooperation, the local leaders, and the government agencies.
