The Evolution of Lexical Borrowing from Slavic Languages and Its Impact on Semantic and Structural Change in the Russian Language

Abstract
This study investigates the evolution of Slavic loanwords concerning semantic and structural changes in the Russian language. The objectives are: (1) to examine the historical context of borrowing from Slavic languages into Russian, and (2) to analyze the structural and semantic transformations of these loanwords. The research is grounded in the frameworks of historical linguistics and comparative linguistics. Findings reveal that loanwords from Polish, Czech, and Bulgarian have undergone partial or complete semantic shifts, as well as structural adaptations. These adaptations include phonological and syllabic adjustments, modifications in inflectional systems, and the derivation of new words from borrowed roots. Such changes reflect the dynamic nature of language as a mechanism responsive to social and cultural factors. Furthermore, they demonstrate the Russian language’s capacity to effectively integrate loanwords into its linguistic system. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of historical linguistic processes and offers a foundation for broader applications in the field of historical linguistics.
