Grammatical Cohesion in Spanish Online News

Abstract
This article aims to investigate the use of grammatical cohesive devices in Spanish online news articles. The sample selected consists of forty Spanish online news articles: ten each from science, culture, economy and world news. The researcher analysed the data within the Halliday and Hasan’s framework. The study’s findings were as follows: (1) in general, the most frequently used grammatical cohesive devices were Reference, followed in order by Ellipsis, Conjunction and Substitution, and (2) particularly science and economy news tended to use grammatical cohesive devices in a similar way, while there was also similarity between culture and world news.
