Employment Conditions and Perspectives on the Value of Working in Japan from the Viewpoint of Thai Laborers

Abstract
This research article studied employment conditions of Thai laborers in Japan and examined their perspectives on financial value, knowledge and professional skill, and experience gained from working in Japan. Data was gathered by online questionnaire and online interviews from 50 Thai citizens who were employed legally as laborers in Japan before returning home to Thailand. Results showed that the most common motives for Thai laborers to work in Japan were seeking professional experience and the desire to live in Japan, followed by better compensation and benefits than in Thailand. Most samples, as legal workers, received basic rights and welfare as well as living conditions in Japan and felt satisfied and recompensed financially, intellectually, professionally, and developmentally. However, some respondents encountered problems in working and living in Japan. These findings raise awareness of Thai worker experience in Japan that may be useful for future potential employees in Thailand seeking work in Japan.
