Abstract

Intersex bodies encounter significant gaps in knowledge, a challenge that remains underexplored within the mainstream discourse of the LGBTQIA+ movement in Thai society. This research undertakes an in-depth analysis and interpretation of intersex narratives within Thai society using the concept of Interdiscursivity. The intersex narratives for this study are drawn from interviews published in public media sources. This research article employs a qualitative research methodology to address inquiries concerning intersex bodies and identity, encompassing bodily performativity within in the episteme of multi-voice discourse. The research findings highlight the absence of unanimity in intersex discourse within Thai society. The discourse is characterized by the articulation of medical science and gender binary discourses, constructing an understanding of intersex as an abnormal, ambiguous, and unintelligible body that requires correction. However, when these discourses articulate with post-intersex discourse, intersex bodies in this realm can be recognized as diverse, devoid of a sense of disorder. As a result, individuals within this group acquire the knowledge to engage with and reject medical intervention, potentially enhancing the recognition of intersex bodies in Thai society.
