La The Redefinition of Women through the lens of minorities: 19th Century French and British novels written by women
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aims to examine the image of women in certain 19th century French and British literary works. The context in which this image is conceived will be scrutinized before we move on to analyze the literary representations of women by male writers in order to demonstrate how social context and literary works influence each other in their creation of the oppressive and unachievable image of women. The final part of the article will analyze, through the lens of social minorities, how female writers undermine this oppressive image by means of literature to create another one and propose a new definition of women.
