A Description of Buyang Language in China

Abstract
This article is an ethnolinguistic description of the Buyang language which is classified as newly discovered language in China. Chinese scholars have classified Buyang language under Sino-Tibetan language family, Zhuang-Dong branch, Ge-Yang sub-branch. The data from this study is mainly conclusion translated and synthesized from Chinese scholars’ research, then finding a relationship with Thai language. The article presents two main aspects: 1. Buyang ethnic information and 2. Buyang language description which consists of: (1) language classification (2) phonology (3) word system (4) grammar and (5) dialects. From the investigation, there is little data available about Buyang language in Thai linguistics. Previous Thai researchers mostly studied Buyang language information from foreign and some of Thai scholars’ research, but scarcely from Chinese scholars. This article will provide information about Buyang language from Chinese scholars so that Thai scholars are able to conduct further research related to the topic.
