Differences in Cultivating Children between Japanese and American Culture

Abstract
This article discusses the differences in cultivating children between Japanese and American cultures by focusing on how the children are trained and how that produces differences in thinking and behavior between Japanese and American children. This article discusses the following: 1) Methods of teaching that focus on industriousness and diligence, 2) Divided roles in society, 3) Japanese style of training (inside) (outside) (good children), 4) Results of surveys on training children, 5) Discernment of others’ emotions, and 6) Teaching by absorption.
