บทคัดย่อ
บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษามุมมองและการตระหนักรู้ของสังคมที่มีต่อบุคคลรักร่วมเพศผ่านการ เปรียบเทียบระหว่างสังคมอังกฤษและฝรั่งเศสในช่วงศตวรรษที่ 19 วิเคราะห์บริบททางสังคมและประวัติศาสตร์ โดยพิจารณาปฏิกิริยาสังคมที่มีต่อบุคคลที่มีชื่อเสียงผู้ถูกเปิดเผยเพศสถานะหลังเกิดการฟ้องร้องทางกฎหมาย อันได้แก่ อาร์ตูร์ แรงโบด์ ปอล แวร์เลน และออสการ์ ไวลด์ ภูมิหลังที่แตกต่างกันเป็นปัจจัยที่ ทำให้บุคคลรักร่วมเพศในแต่ละสังคมได้รับการปฏิบัติแตกต่างกันออกไป ซึ่งปรากฏออกมาในรูปแบบของแรงกดดันทางสังคมอย่างรุนแรงในอังกฤษ ขณะสังคมฝรั่งเศสมีลักษณะยอมรับได้มากกว่า
