กลวิธีการนำเสนอภาพลักษณ์ของตัวละครผิวดำและตัวละครผิวขาวในภาพยนตร์ฮอลลีวูดที่มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับประเด็นเหยียดเชื้อชาติและการเลือกปฏิบัติต่อชาวแอฟริกันอเมริกา: การวิเคราะห์ตัวบท

บทคัดย่อ

การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์การนำเสนอภาพลักษณ์ของตัวละครผิวดำและตัวละครผิวขาวในภาพยนตร์ฮอลลีวูดที่มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับประเด็นเหยียดเชื้อชาติและการเลือกปฏิบัติต่อชาวแอฟริกันอเมริกัน จากภาพยนตร์ฮอลลีวูดจำนวน 12 เรื่อง โดยอาศัยแนวคิดเรื่องบทบาทของสื่อภาพยนตร์ต่อความสัมพันธ์ทางเชื้อชาติและชาติพันธุ์ร่วมกับแนวคิดการเล่าเรื่องในภาพยนตร์

จากการวิเคราะห์พบว่า ภาพยนตร์กลุ่มตัวอย่างได้นำเสนอภาพลักษณ์ของตัวละครผิวดำออกมาในลักษณะดังนี้ คือตัวละครหลักผิวดำเป็นบุคคลที่มีความสามารถ มีความมุ่งมั่นและอดทน ส่วนตัวละครผิวดำที่เล่นเป็นฝ่ายตรงข้ามมีลักษณะตามแบบฉบับของผู้ร้าย ในด้านของตัวละครผิวขาวนั้นภาพยนตร์กลุ่มตัวอย่างได้นำเสนอภาพลักษณ์ออกมาในลักษณะดังนี้คือ ตัวละครหลักผิวขาวเป็นบุคคลที่ไม่เหยียดเชื้อชาติหรือเลือกปฏิบัติต่อคนผิวดำ และตัวละครผิวขาวที่เล่นเป็นฝ่ายตรงข้ามนั้นมีลักษณะตามแบบฉบับของตัวละครผู้ร้ายซึ่งไม่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงบุคลิกภาพและพฤติกรรมใดๆ ทั้งสิ้น

การสร้างภาพลักษณ์ของตัวละครในลักษณะดังกล่าวแสดงให้เห็นว่ากลุ่มผู้ผลิตภาพยนตร์ฮอลลีวูดซึ่งส่วนใหญ่เป็นคนผิวขาวยังคงให้ความสำคัญกับการสร้างภาพลักษณ์ที่ดีให้กับตัวละครผิวขาว เพื่อสื่อว่าแม้ว่าตัวละครผิวดำจะมีความสามารถมากเพียงใดก็ตามก็ไม่อาจประสบความสำเร็จได้หากปราศจากการสนับสนุนของตัวละครผิวขาวที่เป็นมิตร กล่าวได้ว่าภาพยนตร์ฮอลลีวูดยังคงเน้นย้ำอุดมการณ์ทางด้าน “ความเป็นเลิศของชนผิวขาว” (White Supremacy) ให้ครองความเป็นอุดมการณ์หลัก (Hegemony) ในสังคมอเมริกันต่อไป โดยแฝงมากับการสร้างและภาพลักษณ์ของตัวละครผิวขาวในภาพยนตร์

This research studies the process of character construction of African Americans and White Americans in Hollywood films about racist and discriminating issues of African Americans. All textual analysis and information were collected from twelve films that dealt with race and ethnicity related to storytelling in film.

The results show that, in the sample films, the image of the African Americans is presented in these ways: the main character who is African American is a talented, determined and patient person. And the African American character who is an antagonist has the typical characteristics of a villain. As for the image of white American characters, we found from the sample films that they are presented in these ways: The White American character is a person who is non-racist and non-discriminatory. The white American character who is antagonist has the typical characteristics of a villain and will not change their personality and behavior.

These images of White Americans and African Americans show how Hollywood producers, who are mostly White Americans, give precedence in presenting good images white Americans. This implies that no matter how talented African Americans are, they would not be successful without the support of a friendly White American. So it could be said that Hollywood film producers still reproduce the ideology of “White supremacy” to be hegemonic of American society by concealing this in the production and images representing White Americans in their films.
