บทคัดย่อ
การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา 1) ความทรงจำร่วม อัตลักษณ์ชาติ และนโยบายต่างประเทศเกาหลีใต้ต่อญี่ปุ่น ในช่วงรัฐบาลปักคึนฮเยและมุนแชอิน และ 2) เพื่ออธิบายว่าทำไมความทรงจำร่วมยังมีอิทธิพลต่อการเมืองภายในและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศทั้งสอง ผลการวิจัยพบว่าความทรงจำร่วมของคนเกาหลีใต้เกี่ยวกับนางบำเรอสงครามและคนงานบังคับเกาหลีมีอิทธิพลต่ออัตลักษณ์ชาติ ความรู้สึกชาตินิยม และการกำหนดนโยบายต่างประเทศเกาหลีใต้ต้องการให้ญี่ปุ่นขอโทษอย่างเป็นทางการ และจ่ายค่าชดใช้ให้แก่ผู้ประสบเคราะห์กรรม เนื่องจากอิทธิพลของความจำร่วม อัตลักษณ์ และความรู้สึกชาตินิยมในญี่ปุ่น รัฐบาลญี่ปุ่นไม่เคยยอมรับอย่างเป็นทางการในการยึดครองเกาหลีเป็นอาณานิคม และล้มเหลวในการร่วมมือกับเกาหลีใต้ในการแก้ไขข้อพิพาท ด้วยเหตุนี้ สงครามประวัติศาสตร์ระหว่างประเทศทั้งสองจึงอยู่ในสถานการณ์ยุ่งยากทั้งในปัจจุบันและอนาคต
