บทคัดย่อ

พระราชนิพนธ์แปลเรือง “นายอินทร์ผู้ปิดทองหลังพระ” เป็นพระราชนิพนธ์ของ

พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว พระองค์ทรงใช้เวลาและพระวิริยะทรงแปลถ่ายทอดจาก ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทยให้คนไทยได้อ่าน พระราชนิพนธ์นี้ปรากฏให้เห็นพระอัจฉริยะทางภาษาและวรรณศิลป์ ซึ่งพระองค์ทรงใช้กลวิธีในการแปลถ่ายทอด 2 ลักษณะคือ (1) ทรงแปลตามตัวอักษร (2) ทรงแปลถ่ายทอดเนื้อหาและความหมายด้วยการทําความเข้าใจแล้วปรับเปลี่ยนเป็นแบบไทยๆ  พระปรีชาสามารถในการแปลถ่ายทอดกวีนิพนธ์และบทประพันธ์ทรงใช้รูปแบบคําประพันธ์แบบไทย ๆ หลายรูปแบบ อาทิ ทรงแปลถ่ายทอดด้วยการประพันธ์แบบผสาน กล่าวคือ การขึ้นต้นด้วยร้อยแก้วแล้วตามด้วยบทร้อยกรองในเนื้อความเดียวกัน และถ่ายทอดด้วย กลอนหก กลอนแปด กลอนเปล่าและร้อยแก้ว และทรงเลือกใช้คําให้เหมาะกับรูปแบบ และเนื้อความจากต้นฉบับทําให้บทกวีนิพนธ์และบทประพันธ์นั้นงามสง่าและเกิดอรรถรสยิ่งขึ้น

“A Man Called Intrepid” is His Majesty the King’s translation work which His Majesty spent precious time and efforts to translate from English to Thai version for Thai people to read. This translation work portrayed His Majesty’s great competence in language and literature. His Majesty employed two strategies to transform poetry into an amazingly legible composition that suit Thai people’s reading preference: (1) literal translation and (2) content translation.  As shown in this translation work, His Majesty’s weaved the two strategies together by starting with the translated prose then followed by the translate poetry. The translated poetic verses were arranged in the Thai poetic tradition of six or eight syllables lines as well as in blank verses. In this way, His Majesty’s translation work is magnificent and reflects full aesthetic values.
