Non-Standard English as Identity Formation

บทคัดย่อ

New literatures in English from the former colonies of England exploit the use of the English language to establish a political ground and, therefore, put into question the notion of ‘standard English’ as a privilege version of English and pidgin or non-standard English as uneducated. This article explores attempts to define and standardize English, in order to understand the patterns of ‘non-standard’ usage of English and its effects. Then it looks at how non-standard English is used to achieve its literary and political aims.
