การศึกษาสำรวจคุณสมบัติของนักแปล

บทคัดย่อ

งานวิจัยเรื่อง “การศึกษาสำรวจคุณสมบัติของนักแปล” มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสำรวจความคิดเห็นเกี่ยวกับคุณสมบัติที่นักแปลพึงมี เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือแบบสอบถาม ประชาการ ได้แก่ นักแปลจำนวน 94 คน และผู้จ้าง/บรรณาธิการ จำนวน 41 คน

ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับผู้ตอบแบบสอบถาม พบว่านักแปลและผู้จ้าง/บรรณาธิการส่วนใหญ่เป็นเพศหญิง อายุ 31-40 ปี

มีการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรี นักแปลส่วนใหญ่ไม่เคยศึกษาหรืออบรมการแปล มีประสบการณ์ในการแปล 1-5 ปี ทั้งนักแปลและผู้จ้าง/บรรณาธิการเกี่ยวข้องกับงานแปลที่มิใช่วรรณกรรมมากกว่างานแปลวรรณกรรม ส่วนใหญ่เป็นการแปลจากภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทย

ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับคุณสมบัติของนักแปลพบว่าคุณสมบัติทั้งหมด 25 ประเด็นในแบบสอบถามเป็นคุณสมบัติที่มีความจำเป็นระดับปานกลาง-มากที่สุด สำหนักนักแปลงานวรรณกรรม และงานมิใช่วรรณกรรม ส่วนกลุ่มคุณสมบัติ 5 กลุ่ม ผลการจัดลำดับความสำคัญมีดังนี้

อันดับ 1 ความสามารถด้านภาษาต้นฉบับ และภาษาฉบับแปล

อันดับ 2 ความรู้เรื่องต้นฉบับ

อันดับ 3 ลักษณะนิสัยส่วนตัวที่ส่งเสริมการแปล

อันดับ 4 ความรู้ด้านหลักวิธีการแปล

อันดับ 5 ความรู้ที่เกี่ยวข้อง คือ ภาษาศาสตร์ และวรรณคดี

The research project, “A Survey of Translators’ Attributes,” aims to make a survey of opinions about the requirements a translator should meet. Questionnaires are used to collect data from translators and editors. The respondents include 94 translators and 41 editors.

From the respondents’ data, it is found that most translators and editors are female aged 31-40, with bachelor’s degrees. Most of them have around 1-5 years experience in translation but have never studied translation. They do non-literary translations more than literary ones and mostly translate from English into Thai.

For the translator’s a attributes, it is found that all 25 attributes stated in the questionnaire are required at levels ranging from moderate to most needed, for both literary and non-literary translations. The five groups of translator’s attributes are ranked as follows:

1. Language Ability

2. Knowledge of the original text

3. Personal characteristics supporting translation

4. Knowledge of principles of translation

5. Related knowledge i.e. linguistics and literature
