บทความนี้แปลและเรียบเรียงมาจากรายงานผลการสำรวจสภาพการศึกษาภาษาญี่ปุ่นในต่างประเทศ ซึ่งสำรวจโดยเจแปนฟาวน์เดชั่นเมื่อปี 2003 บทความนี้ให้ภาพรวมของการศึกษาภาษาญี่ปุ่นในประเทศต่าง ๆ ทั่วโลกซึ่งแบ่งเป็น 9 ภูมิภาค โดยให้ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับจำนวน สถานศึกษา ผู้สอน ผู้เรียน สภาพการศึกษาในแต่ละระดับการศึกษา วัตถุประสงค์ในการศึกษาภาษาญี่ปุ่น สภาพของผู้สอน และประเด็นปัญหาในการศึกษาภาษาญี่ปุ่น โดยเปรียบเทียบกับข้อมูลการสำรวจเมื่อ 5 ปีก่อน

This paper is an edited translation of the Survey Report on Japanese-Language Education Abroad 2003 which was conducted by the Japan Foundation in 2003. This paper gives an overview of Japanese education in countries all over the world (except Japan) which are divided into nine areas. Changes in the numbers of institutes, teachers and learners, the situation of Japanese language education at each educational level, purposes of study, the situation of Japanese teachers and the problems of Japanese education are analyzed, and compared with the data surveyed 5 years ago.
