Abstract

Objectives of this research article were: 1. to study the level of public awareness in the election of executives and members of the Ton Thong Chai Sub-District Municipality, 2. to compare political awareness of people in exercising their voting rights to elect executives and members of the Ton Thong Chai Sub-District Council., and 3. to presents the application of Buddhist principles to promote political awareness among citizens in exercising their rights to vote for executives and members of the Ton Thong Chai Sub-District Council, conducted by the mixed methods. The qualitative research, data were collected in-depth-interviewing 10 key informants. The quantitative research, data were collected from 389 samples analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation and analyzed the qualitative data by descriptive interpretation.

Findings of the research were as follows: 1. The level of political awareness in the election of executives and members of the Ton Thong Chai Sub-District Municipality, by overall, was found to be at high level in the following aspects; the voting right exercise, the election and the period of voting decision, accordingly. 2. People with different ages, genders, education levels, occupations, and monthly incomes had different opinions on people’s awareness to exercise their right to vote for executives and members of the Ton Thong Chai Sub-District Municipality Council, Mueang District, Lampang Province. Therefore, the research hypothesis was accepted. 3. Akatidhamma 4 application consisted of Chandakati; love-based prejudice, Tosakati; bias due to dislike. Mohakati; bias due to infatuation and Payakati; bias due to fear for promoting political awareness of citizens in exercising their rights to elect administrators and members of the Ton Thong Chai Sub-District Municipality Council at Mueang District in Lampang Province.
