MODEL FOR DEVELOPING GOOD TEMPLE MANAGEMENT IN NONTHABURI PROVINCE

Abstract

This research aims to: 1. examine the general conditions, 2. study the management process, and 3. develop a good practice model for temple administration. Field data were collected from 25 key informants, including policy-makers, practitioners, project supporters, and academic experts, along with a focused group discussion with 10 distinguished experts.

The findings reveal that temples in Nonthaburi Province play a vital role in sustainable community and social development particularly in fostering community participation, preserving arts and culture, and supporting public infrastructure. However, challenges remain, including a shortage of skilled personnel, centralized administrative structures, and limited financial resources. Temples that demonstrate effective management tend to engage in systematic strategic planning, which includes environmental analysis, setting clear visions and goals, promoting stakeholder participation, and incorporating technology into administrative practices. The proposed development model emphasizes a holistic and sustainable approach that includes maintaining physical infrastructure, preserving cultural heritage, diversifying religious activities, enhancing human resource capacity, encouraging community involvement, and building collaborative networks. Key recommendations include formulating a five-year temple development strategic plan, establishing provincial-level temple development committees, creating data and information management systems, and developing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. Furthermore, future research is recommended to focus on participatory action research, the integration of digital technologies, and tangible impact assessments of temple management development on surrounding communities.
