This research aims to study the essential leadership skills required by educational administrators to adapt to the changing landscape of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Chanthaburi. A mixed-methods research approach was employed, integrating both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. For the quantitative study, the target population comprised educational personnel from 21 Catholic schools across six provinces in eastern Thailand. A total of 566 participants (124 administrators and 442 teachers) were selected using multi-stage sampling. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire, which had been validated for content validity (IOC = 1.00) and demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.983). Data analysis involved descriptive statistics (percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics, including the Priority Needs Index Modified (PNI Modified) to determine the most critical leadership skills required. In the qualitative phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with school administrators and education experts. The collected data were analyzed using content analysis to synthesize findings and identify the key leadership competencies necessary for administrators to navigate change effectively.
The research findings reveal that the most essential leadership skill identified was technology and digital competency (PNI = 0.092), followed by the ability to inspire and motivate (PNI = 0.087), and analytical and creative thinking skills (PNI = 0.083). The qualitative findings supported the quantitative analysis, highlighting the urgent need for school administrators to develop these competencies to enhance educational management efficiency in the digital era. The study’s findings provide a framework for developing leadership skills among Catholic school administrators, equipping them to manage change effectively and elevate the quality of education in the future.
