COMMUNICATION MEANING FOR GOOD DEATH IN THAILAND

Abstract

Objectives of this research paper were 1. To study the meaning of a good death, peaceful type, 2. To analyze the communication process of good death model, the peaceful one, and 3. To study the awareness of peaceful death. This qualitative research involved textual analysis and in-depth interviews of selected individuals. Data were analyzed to reveal the new meaning, the communication process and the awareness of the peaceful death.

Findings were found that:1. There were 5 criteria in defining the meaning of a peaceful death, namely, 1) the conditions of good death, 2) who was a good death, 3) the reasons/results of a good death, 4) the approaching of good death and 5) the management styles of death. 2. It was further revealed that people in the peaceful death group have developed new communication strategies and redefined the meaning of ‘death’ for better understanding by creating tools, organizing learning activities about life and death, providing easier access to interest groups via online and onsite sessions and by communicating with their target group before ailments and decision- making stakeholders in the family, and 3. An awareness of a peaceful death has an impact on changing the attitude and behavior related to a peaceful death leading to better acceptance of one’s own death or of people around. This created positive thinking, perspective or attitude towards death.
