AMALGAMATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION TO HAVE THE SUITABLE SIZE IN THAILAND CONTEXT
Keywords:
Amalgamation, Local Government Organization, Suitable SizeAbstract
Local administrative organizations are very important in giving administration to the people because they are close to the people. Therefore, the way that can optimize the local administrative organization size at the present is to amalgamate the local administrative organizations to optimize its size. The amalgamation of local administrative organizations to expand their sizes can improve financial management efficiency and create democratic citizenship in the local area. Currently, Thailand has amalgamated local administrative organizations since 2003 when the law had the power to amalgamate until now. Since then, there have been only 4 local administrative organizations established and amalgamated. This is around 0.05 compared to all local administrative organizations in Thailand which is a lower rate compared to overseas. This concern might cause by a delay in the Ministry of Interior’s approval and the fact that the local administrative organizations do not have sufficient budgets. As a result, the amalgamation of local administrative organizations is not proceeded as it should.
