TREND OF TUBTIM SIAM POMELO PLANTING OF FARMERS IN KLONG NOI SUBDISTRICT, PAK PHANANG DISTRICT, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study personal factor, economic factor, exposure to agricultural information of farmers, 2) to study trend of Tubtim Siam Pomelo planting of farmers, 3) to compare the trend of Tubtim Siam Pomelo planting of farmers classified by personal factor and by exposure to agricultural information, 4) to study relationship between economic factor and trend of Tubtim
Siam Pomelo Planting of Farmers, 5) to study the problems and suggestions about Tubtim Siam Pomelo planting of farmers. The samples consisted of 153 Tubtim Siam Pomelo farmers in Klong Noi Subdistrict, Pak Phanang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Data were collected by using interviewing schedule. Statistical analyses were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum,
maximum, t-test, Oneway Analysis of Variance, Multiple Comparison by Least Significant Difference and Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient. The result of the research revealed that most of the sampled farmers were
male (68.6%). The average of age was 52.22 years old. The level of education was  elementary. The average member of farm household was 4 persons. The average experience of Tubtim Siam Pomelo plantation was 9.16 years. The average agricultural area was 9.59 rai. The average area for Tubtim Siam Pomelo plantation was 4.73 rai. The average labor in Tubtim Siam Pomelo planting was 3 persons. The
average expenditure and income from Tubtim Siam Pomelo planting was 78,928.10 Baht per years and 208,601.31 Baht per year, respectively . Most of the sampled farmers exposed to agricultural information from their friend, training and publications. Most of the farmers had trend in changing or improving of Tubtim Siam Pomelo planting on the average at the high level (mean 3.61). For each aspect, the farmers are likely to change or improve at the high level in 4 aspects: the soil for planting, the planting method, the maintenance and the harvesting, and at the moderate level in 2 aspects; the disease and insects treatment and selling.
From hypothesis testing, it was indicated that farmers with different experienced in planting had significant different trend in changing or improving of Tubtim Siam Pomelo planting at 0.01 level of significance. The income from planting Tubtim Siam Pomelo had significant negative relationship with the trend of planting Tubtim Siam Pomelo at 0.01 level of significance
