Development of Ethical Information Literacy and Moral Behavior by Using Ethical Resource-based Learning for Students in the Information Technology Program

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the effects of using ethical resource-based learning to enhance ethical information literacy and moral behavior, and 2) to develop ethical information literacy and moral behavior of students in the Information Technology program. The population were student of Information Technology program, Suan Dusit University. The sample used for  the experimental group consisted of 38 undergraduate students, section B1 to the Information Integration course in the 2015 academic year, Suan Dusit University by purposive sampling. The research instruments were the ethical information literacy questionnaire and moral behavior questionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation and dependent t-test. The results of the study were as follows: 1) The activities of ethical resource- based learning include: 1. providing content, resources and learning resources, 2. offering knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience to arouse interest for students discussion, 3. selecting ethical resources, 4. group process to study the area of ethical resources and the teacher's role to provide assistance and facilitate, 5. discussing knowledge in order to apply this knowledge in other situations, 6. exploring attitudes towards learning activities using ethical resources, 7. presenting a multimedia performance and 8. summarizing  and evaluating group activities. 2) Overall ethical information literacy of  the experimental sample before undertaking teaching was high  ( = 3.56, S.D. = 0.63) ; the ethical information literacy after undertaking teaching was increase ( = 3.77, S.D. = 0.74). 3) Overall moral behavior of the experimental sample before undertaking teaching was high  ( = 3.73, S.D. = 0.83), when evaluating the moral behavior after undertaking teaching was increased ( = 3.91, S.D. = 0.77).
