Abstract

The purpose of this study were 1) to explore the environmental and policy factors associated with the success of smoking cessation among Thai smokers, and 2) to compare the relationship of such factors between participants aged 15-44 and 45 years old and above. The methodology of this quantitative research employed the use of secondary data from the smoking and drinking behavior survey 2014 by National Statistical Office. Totally, 2,250 samples were included in the analysis. The results from binary logistic regression showed that the absence of home smoking was the only factor in the environmental and policy that was associated to the success of smoking cessation among Thai smokers aged 15-44 and 45 years old and above. There were other factors relative to the success of smoking cessation in different age groups, such as in the 45-year age group and above, the health problems and doctor’s advice to quit smoking were found to significantly affect smoking cessation. the results from this study indicated that the agencies involved in the public health policy need to develop effective policies that provide a way to communicate with current smokers to be aware of the dangers and harms of smoking.
