บทความวิชาการนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อนำเสนอแนวคิดการพัฒนาระบบสารสนเทศของตำรวจ สำนักงานตำรวจแห่งชาติมีหน้าที่ควบคุมอาชญากรรมที่เกิดขึ้นในประเทศไทย สถานีตำรวจเป็นหน่วยงานเริ่มต้นของสายพานข้อมูลอาชญากรรม ระบบเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศสำหรับตำรวจถูกใช้สำหรับงานสืบสวนสอบสวนและงานป้องกันปราบปราม การรับแจ้งเหตุทั้งคดีอาญาหรือจราจรเป็นหน้าที่ของฝ่ายสอบสวนในการเริ่มต้นกระบวนการ การจัดเก็บและแบ่งปันข้อมูลคดีถูกออกแบบให้บริการทั้งหน่วยงานข้างเคียงและหน่วยงานระดับนโยบาย การแลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลภายในถือเป็นสิ่งสำคัญต่อองค์กรตำรวจในยุคดิจิทัล ระบบโพลิสเป็นบริการเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศในช่วงแรก ส่วนระบบไครมส์ได้รับการพัฒนาต่อยอดมาในภายหลัง การแยกฐานข้อมูลทางด้านอาชญากรรมออกจากด้านบริหารองค์กรถือเป็นจุดเปลี่ยนสำคัญของระบบสารสนเทศในระยะหลัง อย่างไรก็ตามข้อมูลงานบริหารที่เกี่ยวกับทรัพยากรบุคคลและงบประมาณมีความจำเป็นที่ต้องรักษาการเชื่อมโยงข้ามระบบ แนวทางการต่อยอดระบบสถานีตำรวจในอนาคตให้ความสำคัญไปที่การเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพฮาร์ดแวร์และซอฟท์แวร์ ตลอดจนการนำเทคโนโลยีปัญญาประดิษฐ์มาสนับสนุนการวิเคราะห์อาชญากรรมและการสืบสวน
