Abstract

This study aimed to examine the problems and needs in teaching and learning related to the analysis of language change among Thai pre-service teachers. A mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research, was employed. The participants included instructors teaching courses related to language change and Thai pre-service teachers. The research instruments consisted of semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. The collected data was analyzed using content analysis and descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that the current problems in teaching and learning could be classified into five aspects: 1) instructional management, 2) teacher roles, 3) student learning behaviors, 4) assessment and evaluation, and 5) teaching materials. Meanwhile, students expressed a preference for learning experiences that incorporate authentic sources, such as classical literature or historical documents, and for diverse learning activities, including projects, discussions, and case study analyses.
