An Application of Buddhist Peaceful Means to Astrologers’ Forecasts

บทคัดย่อ

The purpose of this article is of 3 objectives : 1) to study the way of
Thai astrologers’ forecasting; 2) to study principle of Right Speech in Theravada
Buddhism and 3) to apply principle of Right Speech to Thai astrologers’
forecasting.
From the research, it is found that astrologers’ forecasts are influential
speech to service-receivers’ mindful conditions; using words, implied to the
mind with moral teachings when being heard causing mindful comfort and
sorrow-release, by the application of Right Speech principle to forecasting, is an
advantage to better changes in thoughts, mindful stage and actions, including
attitude and behavior. The application of the Right-speech principle comprises
of 5 factors of verbal usage which are : - in proper time and place, all truth,
nice and sweet, useful, and with loving- kindness.
In bringing principle of Right Speech to use as an application of
astrologers’ forecasts, it is found that the forecast in harmony with time and

Scripture and law of Karma, and Cause and Effect; the forecast with nice and
sweet words is the forecast with gentle and beautiful, not rude language, not
the words to discourage, advice to donate, observe the precepts and meditate;
the forecast for enhancement of happy usefulness that is to speak for keeping
service-receivers’ benefits to prepare their bodies and minds to cope with
situations in the future; and the forecast with loving- kindness is the speech
with the wish that the listeners be without sorrow but happiness and
accomplish in the beneficial things. Whenever the astrologers hold on to the
principle of the Right Speech in forecasting, it will not only help servicereceivers
release their problems and find the way out for leading their lives,
but it will also be the important part of helping enhance society for peace,
leading to trustworthiness of the role of astrologers and that they can be a fine refuge of the society, too.
