Methods for Buddhist Academic Studies

บทคัดย่อ
This study consisted of the following objectives: (1) to study origin and development of Buddhist study in the conservative manner, (2) to study methodology in Buddhisty study in the academic manner and (3) to analyze methodology of Buddhist study in the academic manner.
The results showed that in origin and development of Buddhist study in the conservative manner, the Buddha proposed the way of study called a threefold training which were included in the development of knowledge and insight. The form of study was the educational management for monks that embraced 3 kinds of Buddhist study namely the study of Buddha’s doctrines and disciplines, the study of Pali language and the study of Abhidhamma. The characteristic of syllabus was to memorize and explain the types of the scripture and explained them according to the pattern of syllabus that was designed by monks. The form of Buddhist study in academic manner was the continuity from prier Buddhist education and developed to be applicable in the university. The intricacy of methodology in scientific, philosophical and religious manners and the analysis of methodology in academic manner, that is, in scientific manner that applied the scientific methodology in Buddhist study such as research in Buddhist Studies brought about conceivable data and could be the evidence in Dhamma explanation and in philosophical and religious field, rational methodology was to be applied.
