Inequality and Vulnerability among Informal Debt in Thai Society

บทคัดย่อ

In a few decades, poverty and debt was spread among Thai society, specifically informal debt was speedy increased. Impact from informal debt was significantly related to vulnerability and inequality of people. This article is present situations and problems of informal debt in Thai society which engender vulnerability and inequality and suggest the solutions.  Qualitative and quantitative were selected for data rechecking. 4,709 respondents whom was debt from questionnaire, 18 focus groups and 66 case study interviews were collected among 12 provinces through Thailand. It shows that the group of security income, salary man who is lowers 20,000 baht and the group of insecurity income, informal sector labor who is lower 10,000 baht,  non-income and dependency people were forced to vulnerability when face with informal debt problems. The problem in insecurity income group was more hazardous and complicate than security income group. The household expenses over income, emergency expenses and consumer behaviors were a cause of informal debt. Socio-economic problem and cause of informal debt remain this problem and drive debtor more vulnerability and stretch gap of inequality. A systematic solution to the problem is more function than case by case solution.
