This study aims to investigate the factors influencing junior high school students’ sports behavior by focusing on the external influence of the family sports environment, and the mediating roles of self-efficacy and sports motivation. The specific objectives are: (1) to explore the influence of the family sports environment on the development of exercise habits and lifelong sports participation among junior high school students; (2) to examine the role of self-efficacy in shaping students’ motivation and persistence in physical activity; and (3) to analyze the interrelationship between family physical education, self-efficacy, and sports motivation in promoting healthy behaviors. This is a quantitative study utilizing the questionnaire survey method. The research population comprises junior high school students in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, selected through a convenience sampling approach. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling.

The findings revealed the following: 1. The family sports environment has a significant positive impact on junior high school students’ sports behavior. A more supportive environment is associated with higher levels of participation in physical activities. 2. Self-efficacy plays a crucial role in enhancing students’ sports behavior. Students with higher self-efficacy tend to be more motivated and consistent in their activities. 3. Self-efficacy serves as a partial mediator between the family sports environment and sports behavior, suggesting that family support indirectly improves physical activity levels by boosting students' confidence in their ability to engage in exercise.
