Abstract

This research article aimed to 1) study the use of language appearing on Facebook fan pages; and 2) investigate the content that generates inspiration on Facebook fan pages. This qualitative study focused on four Facebook fan pages that featured messages about inspiration, encompassing a total of 856 messages. Purposive Sampling was employed for sample selection. The researcher reviewed academic documents, including textbooks, books, and related research, within the conceptual frameworks of language use, online social network content analysis, and inspiration. After documenting the studied information, the researcher compiled all knowledge into criteria for the research and presented the analysis of the data through descriptive analysis.

The research results indicated that: 1) the use of language on Facebook social network fan pages revealed four main linguistic strategies: the use of words, the use of sentences, the use of idioms, and the use of imagery; 2) the content aimed at generating inspiration on these online social network fan pages consisted of five major categories: emotional content aimed at inspiring emotional self-management towards positive feelings, courage, and not feeling alone in suffering; lifestyle content aimed at inspiring a joyful daily life; self-improvement content aimed at inspiring the pursuit of life goals and success, including the courage to face challenges and self-development; content about romantic relationships aimed at inspiring the maintenance of long-lasting relationships, understanding and accepting changes within relationships, and moving on post-relationship; and content about friendships aimed at highlighting the importance of friends, and maintaining strong and enduring friendships.
