Research Approaches to the Art and Culture in Hat Yai Community

Abstract

This article examines and suggests appropriate  research approaches to art and culture  in  Hat  Yai  community.   The recommendations  are  synthesized  from  both  theoretical  considerations  and documentary data, as well as the author’s  field-experiences.  Four important  approaches  and  ideas  considered are :

                1  Pluralism,  and  diversity  in  art  and culture 

                2   Time dimension:  Evolution,   influences   and  sustainability

                3  Conservation  and development  

                4   Adjustment  of the  way  of life  toward  sufficiency  economy 

                These  approaches will be the basis for setting  research questions,  purpose,  conceptual frameworks  and methodologies. Following the above  approaches will entail  a  more qualitative rather  than  a  quantitative  methodology  in  a  multidisciplinary   and  ethical  basis.
