Temporal Dynamics of Role, Adaptation, and Communication: A Study of Pun Thao Kong Ma Shrine and Chao Por Suea Shrine in Talat Tai, Phitsanulok (1947-2025)

Abstract

This qualitative research aims to investigate the function, adaptation, and communication of Pun Tao Kong Ma Shrine and Chao Por Suea Shrine of Talat Tai, Phitsanulok Province. The study combining documentary analysis with field research. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants and direct observation, subsequently analyzed using a descriptive analytical method. The finding reveal that these religious sites remain centers of faith, but are transforming towards multicultural beliefs, with traditional strictness and rituals evolving in a balanced manner to ensure continued relevance. Socio-legal frameworks have driven more transparent and organized management. These sites are also shifting from purely sacred spaces to dynamic learning environments; older generations view them for faith, while younger generations see them as historical, educational, and tourist destinations. Rituals are transitioning from traditional worship to operational, multicultural blends incorporating Taoist, Brahmanical-Hindu, Buddhist beliefs, and spirit mediumship. While personal communication remains influential, digital media now facilitates wider dissemination and greater public participation.
