A Study of Potential Composition of Cultural Tourism Resources in Phon Phisai District, Nong Khai Province

This research is a study regarding the potential of components of heritage tourism resources in Phon Phisai District, Nong Khai Province. This research is a qualitative research with the following objectives: 1) to study the context and explore heritage tourism resources in Phon Phisai District, Nong Khai Province, and 2) to study the potential of heritage tourism components of Phon Phisai District, Nong Khai Province. The instrument employed to collect data is in-depth interviews with key informants, consisting of public officers, private entrepreneurs, community members, and scholars. The method is “Area Frame Study”
The findings reveal that Phon Phisai District, Nong Khai Province is a secondary destination with high potential due to the fact that it is a border city adjacent to the capital of People’s Democratic Republic of Laos with historical and cultural attractions. There are many traditions carried on for a long time, and it is fully arrayed with community life styles preserved by community members. All of these are unique culturally with local customs and community activities. In addition, the city provides facilities for visitors’ convenience, and is full of many natural beauties. Community members are gregarious, and ready to cooperate in heritage tasks of manifesting community traditions, customs, and histories.
The findings also reveal that Phon Phisai District, Nong Khai Province has high potential to develop heritage tourism with complete tourism components that make the city ready to welcome tourists. However, in order to achieve the utmost potential, accessibility to tourism attractions must be improved, and there should be more activities to enhance tourists’ impressive experiences.
