The process of creating the Ginggala dance patterns

Abstract

The objectives of this qualitative research are: 1) to study social
and cultural context of the Ginggala mythical human-bird dance which
related to the Tai-Yai ethnic people 2) to study the structure, concept,
creativities and dance elements of the Ginggala dance 3) to analyze
Ginggala dance patterns from master Sangkham Jangyod’s style by
qualitative research method. in addition with document assimilation,
intensive fieldworks, interview artists in depth and possible for
participatory observations.
Findings of the study are as follows: 1) The socio-cultural
context of the Tai-Yai ethnic people, especially Buddhism dimension has
strongly influenced to the Ginggala mythical human-bird dance. Prime
time of the dance is highly performed during the 11th month Buddhist
Lent Festival 2) Dance structure consists of using various parts of the
body which integrating martial arts movements towards uniquely
performing arts. 3) When comparing between the original style and
re-creating style, there found differences in the composition of the
dance i.e. sequence, style, posture, position, direction, movement of the
dancer, etc. Reasons could be explained due to factors of the
opportunity of performance, the availability, purposes, experience of the
dancers, the audiences, propriety and places, etc. These factors were
resulting in the improvement of the dance process, including the
adaptation of teaching and learning process.
