Relationship between Thai Music and Thai Jingle of Kolabot Siriwibulkit

Abstract

The study of the relationship between Thai music and Thai
jingle of Kolabot Siriwibulkit has two findings as follows. 1. The article
explores the Thai music melodic structure by focusing on a comparison
between the patterns of the sound of Thamnong Luktok or the last
sound in each rhythmic group and the compulsory rhyme patterns of
Thai versification, namely Kolabot or Thai jingles. Two melodies of Thai
music were studied: Singto Lenhang and Nagaraj. It was found that the
melodic structure of Thamnong Luktok of Singto Lenhang was similar to
the compulsory rhyme patterns of Thai jingle of Singto Lenhang. In
contrast, the melodic structure of Thamnong Luktok of Nagaraj was
different from the rhyme patterns of the same jingle name. But, by
applying image interpretation, it was found that the Nagaraj melody and
jingle shared the same characteristic of moving of the snake’s tail. 2. In
terms of the Thai music appearance in Thai jingle of Siriwibulkit, it was
found that the jingle told about Thai musical instruments, lulling, singing
and Thai ensembles, such as Pi Phat ensemble and royal court music
ensemble.
