Abstract

The aim of this research is, in the one hand, to study the culture of Roi Et Asoke community and, on the other hand, to study how Roi Et Asoke people apply Buddhism philosophy in their daily life. The qualitative research methods such as in-dept interview and literature review are used in this work to explain occurred phenomena. The author also used the Booniyom concept, an ideological philosophy of Asoke community that engages in gaining benefits for others, and the community-cultural concept as the principal results analysis framework. The results of this study showed that Roi Et Asoke is a Buddhist-based community that aims at creating the new vision of society by following the Buddhism philosophy. It uses methods of thinking that are based on ancient social process, which bring people to the traditional way of life of their ancient ancestors. That is the way of agriculture and self-reliance that allow them to strengthen the community. The Roi Et Asoke community established a framework for managing community engagement by using belief and religion to unite people so that they can live together like they are from the same family. Furthermore, the research results show that Roi-Et Asoke community declared itself a Buddhist-based community by following Bodhiraksa, the thought leader of the community who gave the new vision of Buddhism wisdom by using Buddhism as a way of life while being able to acclimate to the change of social context.
