the The study into Current Condition and Problem related to the Instruction of the Chinese Language at High School Education in Surat Thani Province

Abstract

This research focused specifically on the area of the Chineselanguage instruction in Surat Thani Province. The purposes of this research were to study into the current conditions and problems related to theChinese language instruction in the level of secondary education, that affect the Chinese language instruction in the level of higher education, and to suggest the policy proposal for the development of the Chinese language instruction in the level of senior high school. This was the survey research mixed with qualitative research and quantitative research. The method used was purposive sampling. Data were collected from an interview with the executives, the teachers, as well as the students who were studying the Chinese language in the Academic Year of 2018.According to the research into the current conditions and problems related to the Chinese language instruction in the level of secondaryeducation in Surat Thani Province, the researcher found two key problems including that 1) the core curriculum of the Chinese language in the level of secondary education contained difficult learning contents which were not appropriate in some areas, and the learning contents were duplicate and were not associated with the contents taught in the level of the highereducation thus making the students be unable to develop their learning in the right direction, and 2) the students encountered the problem on the skill at and the performance in the Chinese language in terms of the pronunciation of consonants, vowels, intonation marks as well as grammar, and writing.
The policy proposal for solving the problems were as follows:1) on part of the management Schools should establish a network with theuniversity in order to exchange administration and make the teachingsystem interrelated.the concerned agencies as well as thegovernmentsector should together adjust the core curriculum to be flexible by taking the condition of the Chinese language instruction of schools located in each area into consideration. the difficult and duplicate learning contents should be modified or reduced and the learning contents relevant to the higher education level should be added; the learning contents should bedetermined in the way that they are consistent with the learning contents in the level of higher education. 3)The policy on part of the Teacher should develop local teachers by have academic training so that the teachers will have continuously academic development. 4) the policy proposal on part of the students was that the pronunciation skill should be focused by making students understand the precise structures and accurate rules of thepronunciation, and the writing skill and grammar should be also reallyfocused in order that the students could understand the basics accurately and could then continue their education in higher level further.
