Effect of Understanding for The Nature of Science Through STEM Education with Engineering Design Process for Junior High School in Lampang Province
Main Article Content
Abstract
The aims of this research were to 1) design and create learning activities based on the STEM Education approach (STEM Education) that integrate with the nature of science. 2) study the results of understanding the nature of science by using learning management according to STEM education of junior high school students. 3) compare the understanding the nature of science before and after learning through STEM Education. The design of this experimental research was Quasi-experimental research, using a group sampling. The sample group were the junior high school students semester 2 in 2023 in Lampang. Tools used in the research consisted of 1. Learning management plan, using STEM education. 2. Measuring the understanding of the nature of science by collecting data before and after learning management. The data were analyzed using mean statistic, standard deviation, Dependent Samples t-test of the ability to measure the nature of science.
The research found that 1) Designing and creating learning activities based on a fully integrated approach to the nature of science according to the STEM approach able to increase students' understanding the nature of science in every issue. 2)Understanding the nature of science in its components of junior high school students When learning the nature of science through STEM, it was found that the understanding of the nature of science in all three areas were found that after all classes were significantly higher than before at the .05 3) Comparing the understanding nature of science before and after learning management based on STEM Education found that number of viewpoints which are consistent with the consensus of the scientific community. The knowledge gained from using STEM Education with engineering design process leads to an understanding the nature of science, allowing students to solve problems or situations by integrating all four disciplines through community contexts.
