Exploring the Characteristics of Folk Music Reflected in Zhang Zhao's Piano Adaptation Collection "Chinese Melodies"

This study aims to analyze the folk music characteristics in Zhang Zhao's piano arrangement collection “Chinese Melodies”. Through literature analysis and work analysis, it explores the melodic development techniques (such as "fish biting the tail", "responsive repetition") and nationalized texture arrangements (rhythm simulation, harmonic color, instrument simulation). The study finds that Zhang Zhao integrates Chinese traditional melodic techniques with Western harmonic structures. For example, in “Jingpo Mountain Song”, second - degree chords are used to simulate the wooden drum, and in “Pastoral Song”, pentatonic mode harmony is applied. These innovations not only preserve the linear beauty of Chinese folk music but also enhance the expressiveness through piano polyphony.The research conclusion points out that “Chinese Melodies” reflects the integration of national and Western musical languages, providing a paradigm for the development of Chinese modern piano music.
