Abortion: The Crisis of Buddhist Ethics in Thai Society

Abstract

Abortion in this paper is an act which delivers the prenatal life from the womb of a pregnant woman so the vital fetus must be destructed. This act is an intentional collaboration between a pregnant woman whose natural status should be motherhood to protect rather than to destroy her preborn child and a person performing abortive act who should have maturity enough to know what should be done or not. Both of them are naturally homo sapiens. Besides, both of them are in the Buddhist atmosphere of Thailand where Buddhist ethics should be effective. But abortive acts in Thailand are increased so that crises of Buddhist ethics in Thailand should be noted. This paper attempts to give suggestions to decrease the crises by that Buddhist institutes have to be active in Thai society.
