The relationship between the mural paintings inside the ordination hall of wat suwankhiri, wat matchimawat located in Songkhla province and wat wang, wat wihanberk, wat sunthrawas located in Phatthalung

Abstract

This academic article aimed to investigate the relationship between mural paintings inside the ordination hall. of Wat Suwannakhiri, Wat Matchimawat, located in Songkhla Province, and Wat Wang, Wat Wihanberk, Wat Suntharawas. located in Phatthalung Province, in terms of art forms, attitudes, and sources of inspiration that influence each other. The study employed a historical art research methodology. The findings revealed that mural paintings in the case studies were related to the content within the ideal framework. The stories written are the history of the Buddha, the Jataka, and the beliefs about the world and the universe (Tribhumi). In terms of the technical features and expressions, traditional techniques have been used since the reign of King Rama III. as well as techniques that gained popular during the reign of King Rama IV. However, it has been found that there are patterns that are the main uniqueness of this painting group. It is the writing group of gods (Thep Chumnum) in one row, which is not a popular pattern in Bangkok.
