Analyze Analyze of Sign in Contemporary Art works on the theme of the Indochina War in Lao PDR during the period 1954-1975

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the circumstances of the Indochina War in Lao PDR from 1954 to 1975; to find the meaning, concepts, and to analyze those signs apparent in the contemporary artworks on the theme of the Indochina War from 19+54-1975, using qualitative research methods. The results of the study found that the history of the Indochinese War in Lao PDR, 1954-1975, was the struggle between the liberal democratic parties, which could be divided into four phases: the first phase, the US intervention period, 1954-1962; the second phase, Johnson’s Special War, 1962-1969; the third phase, the escalating special war according to the Nixon Theory, 1969-1973; the fourth phase, the third coalition government. 1973-1975. Analysis of signs in contemporary art works, all 9 works are classified into the types of signs of icons and symbols. It was found that the synthesis of signs creates new signs and new meanings. Symbols that have similar shapes but different meanings, when synthesized together, new meanings hidden in the new signs arise.
