Abstract

This research aimed at analyzing the motifs that appeared in Himmawanranjuan series and the paradoxical in the protagonist in Himmawanranjuan series. The result found that the motifs appeared in Himmawanranjuan series divided into 3 types were 1) characters found 2 motifs were non-human; himmapan animals, a demigod in Hinduism, Gandharva, angel, and tree bearing fruits in the shape of girls. Human motifs found 2 types: hermit, and human with himmapan animal 2) things were magical things belonged to non-human half angel, magical things with protection power, magical things from himmapan animal, magical things which was plant in himmapan and magical things which was a fetter. 3) event and behavior found 6 motifs were unnatural fornication, self – hide, transformation, rebirth, time- crossing door, and magic event utilization.

            Paradoxical appeared in protagonist in Himmawanranjuan found 2 characters were Singha from Montra Rajasiha, there was a paradoxical between gentleness-gracious and decisively. Ilawaraj or Ilawa from RairakGinnara there was a paradoxical between gracious-gentleness and hot-tempered. Most of the protagonists were ideal, well-qualified, and no paradoxical in each character.
