DEVELOPMENT ETHICAL AND MORAL CURRICULUM USING BUDDHIST PRINCIPLES FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL UNDER BANGKOK ETROPOLITAN ADMINISTRATION IN BANG KHUN THIAN DISTRICT

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to develop a ethical and moral curriculum using Buddhist principles for elementary school students to meet the specified efficiency criteria of 80/80. 2) to assess the appropriateness of the ethical and moral curriculum. 3) to compare students’ knowledge and understanding before and after studying the ethical and moral curriculum. and 4) to compare students’ ethical and moral behavior before and after participating in the curriculum. Research methodology was quasi-experimental design. The sample group comprises 33 Prathomsuksa 6 students from Wathuakrabue School in the second semester of the academic year 2024, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in Bang Khun Thian district, studying in the second semester of the academic year 2024. selected through simple random sampling technique. The research instruments include: 1) a ethical and moral curriculum using Buddhist principles. 2) a lesson plan for ethical and moral curriculum 3) an achievement test on ethical and moral learning. and 4) a questionnaire on students' ethical and moral behavior. The statistics used for data analysis include percentage, mean, Standard Deviation, normalized Gain, and t-test. Major Findings: 1) efficiency of the ethical and moral curriculum using Buddhist principles for elementary school students was 83.98/85.67, meeting the set criteria; 2) ethical and moral curriculum was rated at the highest level of appropriateness (X ̅ = 4.81, S.D. = 0.03). 3) students’ post-learning knowledge and understanding of ethical and moral curriculum concepts were significantly higher than their pre-learning scores at the .01 level of significance; and 4) Students’ ethical and moral behavior significantly improved after the studying ethical and moral curriculum, also at the .01 level of significance.
