Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) to study the saving behavior and spending behavior in older persons, 2) to study the factors relationship to saving satisfaction and spending behavior in older persons, and 3) to propose a model for promoting saving behavior and spending behavior in older persons, Chiang Thong Subdistrict, Wang Chao District, Tak Province. This research used a combined research method between quantitative research using questionnaires with the 268 older persons aged 60 years in Chiang Thong Subdistrict. The data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and chi-square. And qualitative research using interviews with representatives of the 9 older persons in Chiang Thong Subdistrict. The data were analyzed by using content analysis. The research results were as follows: 1) Most elderly people have a habit of saving money, have a form of saving money outside of financial institutions by saving in the form of keeping money on hand, the reason for saving money is to use in times of illness/emergencies, the amount of savings per month 1,001 -5,000 baht, have monthly spending of 1,001-5,000 baht, and have debt of less than 1,000 baht., 2) Factors include gender, age, marital status, occupation, number of household members, monthly income, source of income, saving pattern, reason for saving money, amount of monthly savings, monthly spending, and debt burden It is related to the satisfaction with satisfaction and spending behavior in older persons were  statistically significant at the 0.01 level, and 3) the model for promoting saving behavior and spending behavior in older persons was the “DISRI Model” format with the following components: divide the money, income and expense account, savings account, reduce expenses, and invest to expand.
