Abstract

The objectives of this research article were to: 1) verify the goodness-of-fit between the hypothesized causal relationship model of factors affecting communicative English listening and speaking competency for undergraduate students of Rajabhat universities in the central region and the empirical data, and 2) investigate causal factors influencing communicative English listening competency and speaking competency. The population was 5,362 undergraduate students in 5 Rajabhat universities in the central region in the academic year 2021. A sample of 249 students was obtained by random sampling. A questionnaire was applied as the research instrument. The data analysis was carried out using mean, standard deviation, and the goodness-of-fit between the hypothesized model and the empirical data. The research findings were as follows: 1) the construct validity of the model fit the empirical data (c2 = 6.002 , df = 6, relative c2 = 1.005, p = 0.4229, RMSEA = 0.00131, RMR = 0.00586, SRMR = 0.00940, GFI = 0.995, AGFI = 0.961, NFI = 0.998, NNFI = 1.00), 2) the factors with direct effect on communicative English listening competency had an effect size of 0.724 and the factors with direct effect on communicative English speaking competency had an effect size of 0.754 with a statistical significance at .05 level.
