STUDY THE FUNERAL CEREMONY OF THAI BUDDHIST IN THE LOCAL IN SATHINGPHRA DISTRICT, SONGKHLA PROVINCE

Abstract

 The objective of this research were as follow 1. To study the funeral ceremony of Thai Buddhist in the local in Sathingphra district, Songkhla province. 2. To study the Dhamma puzzle which are appeared in the funeral ceremony of Thai Buddhist in the local in Sathingphra district, Songkhla province. 3. To analyses the evaluation of the funeral ceremony of local Thai people in Sathingphra district, Songkhla province. This research is documentary research and qualitative research and to present the analyses data by descriptive

          The findings were as follows.

1. 1. The funeral ceremony of Thai Buddhist in the local in Sathingphra district, Songkhla province. It was changed from the past up to the present time with modernization of social and valuable of the past which changed because of accommodity in funeral ceremony furthermore there was some change that is in the past they arranged at their houses, so that the Thai Buddhist in the local forgot the original ceremony which had belived for long time but lots of things had applied accordance with age and value and there was just something still remaining upto the present time.


2. The Dhamma puzzle which are appeared in funeral ceremony of Thai Buddhist in the the local in Sathingphra district, Songkhla province found that those are occurred from funeral ceremony performance and each step of funeral ceremony all have a Dhamma puzzle which can be summarized as follows 1. The Dhamma puzzle on corpse bathing 2. The Dhamma puzzle on corpse draping 3. The Dhamma puzzle on corpse combing 4. The Dhamma puzzle on corpse collin opening 5. The Dhamma puzzle on corpse dressing 6. The Dhamma puzzle on putting money in corpse’s mouth 7. The Dhamma puzzle on corpse binding (Madtrasang) 8. The Dhamma puzzle on corpse worshiping 9. The Dhamma puzzle on collin making 10. The Dhamma puzzle on lighting


3. The evaluation of funeral ceremony of Thai Buddhist in the local in Sathingphra district, Songkhla province found that the factors which had changed the funeral ceremony that because of the people in community aimed at more selfishness, the changing of way of life as a result, they try to find out the way for accommodity and symbiosis and in the community level taking place of interest from funeral ceremony as a result the money cycle had occurred, and because of modern educational system of monk and the role of community leaders which are under politics’ factor and value of the host which like to be equal with others as a result, varieties of changing according to their experiences of the community leaders, on the one hand, there was some changing from others local cultures and the floating of capitalism in global age the economical agency taking place that is the cause of changing of funeral ceremony of Thai Buddhist in the local in Sathingphra district, Songkhla province as well.
