Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the causal relationship model of factors affecting the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing industry in Kamphaeng Phet Province. The sample of this study was 432 entrepreneurs or executives of SMEs.
A questionnaire was used as a research instrument. Data collected were then analyzed to determine direct and indirect relationship paths with a structural equation model (SEM). The results of this study indicated that Entrepreneurial Orientation had direct positive influence on Absorptive Capacity (ABC) and Absorptive Capacity (ABC) had direct positive influence on the Competitiveness. In addition, Entrepreneurial Orientation had indirect positive influence on the Competitiveness through Absorptive Capacity. The findings of this study reflect the important role of Absorptive Capacity as a mediator that explains the relationship between Entrepreneurial Orientation and Competitiveness, which is an essential mechanism to consistently upgrade the performance of SME entrepreneurs in the manufacturing industry.
