Predicting Communication Effectiveness of Community Storytellers through SEM: A case Study of OTOP Inno-life in Roi Et Province
Abstract
The objective of this research was to create a model of the causal relationship between community storytellers' characteristic factors and communication achievement. This study employed quantitative research using questionnaires as a tool. The population consisted of 770 community enterprises in 20 districts of Roi Et province. The sample size comprised 360 individuals, calculated based on 18 observed variables. Data analysis utilized structural equation modeling, including multiple regression analysis, confirmatory factor analysis of the measurement model, structural equation model fit assessment, and direct, indirect, and total effect analysis. The results indicated that social and cultural understanding, knowledge, and attitudes of the speaker could predict communication effectiveness by 56.5%. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and model fit indices (2/df = 0.930, GFI = 0.964, CFI = 1.000, RMSEA = 0.000) confirmed that the model was consistent with empirical data. The analysis of direct, indirect, and total effects revealed the factors influencing communication effectiveness. Social and cultural understanding had the highest direct impact on communication effectiveness (β = 0.90**, p < 0.01), followed by the storyteller's attitudes (β = 0.59*, p < 0.05). In terms of total effects, social and cultural understanding significantly influenced communication effectiveness (β = 0.74*, p < 0.05). Recommendations for utilization were presented to various target groups, including government agencies. Standard manuals should be developed for community storytellers, training should be provided, and a system for certifying storytelling instructors should be established. Communities should establish local cultural learning centers in each community. Subsequently, the government should host networking events to facilitate knowledge sharing between communities and among storytellers. The private sector and local businesses should increase their support for community distribution channels based on the principle of interdependence. For example, space in shopping malls should be provided more frequently, and community storytellers should be stationed at sales points during weekends. Hotel businesses can also invite community storytellers to organize activities with guests.
