Social functions of the belief of Thai Song ancestor spirits at Korat village, Nakhonpathom province

Abstract
Thai Song is an ethnic group who profoundly believe in ancestor spirits and have continued to maintain its belief up to today. This paper is a case study of the belief in ancestor spirits at Korat village, Banglen district, Nakhon Pathom province. It features the belief in Thai Song ancestor spirits, ceremonies for ancestor spirits, and social functions related to ancestor spirits beliefs. The qualitative approach is employed as a main method of study. The study shows that the belief in ancestor spirits is evidently tied to Thai Song society and culture handed down from past to present. This belief enables the Thai Song to sustain the strength of their community.
